Under 17s - Match Report 17/04/2010
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Woodley Hammers Black
Result: Won 4 - 1

After two difficult games a good result was needed to prevent us dropping down the table. At training it seemed all players were up for this one due to some local 6th form banter going on.

We began really well and the match was played at what felt like 100 miles an hour. Obviously this was how our opponents thought they could win but we stood firm and with AJ putting pressure on a bouncing ball, gained the initiative as Woodley gifted us an own goal. Never giving up and making the opposition make errors is always going to create chances, something I keep going on about. Though the game was fast, we matched them in all areas and never looked like conceding. Myles had little to do.

The busiest area was on the flanks, David and Fozzie never stopped for 90 minutes. In the middle, George and Oli both had excellent games. At the back, Chris, Ross, Kurt and Alex S held firm to only be beaten once. AJ scored from close range to give us a comfortable 2 goal half time lead.

Woodley then began to pass the ball around after the break. Maybe they had tired playing so fast or thought they would make us run about and chase the ball. After a while though, we managed a third goal. After some neat work AJ scored another from the edge of the box. He then scored again from a really great passing move from Chris and Fozzie and volleyed the 'keeper but was disallowed for off side. After conceding some corners we went to sleep for the only time in the match and Woodley got their consolation goal.

This did not distract from the job we had to do though and we pressed forward time and time again. Eventually from a dangerous cross in, a second own goal gave us a repeat scoreline of our last meeting back in September. Man of the Match went to David who did not stop running and creating down the left hand side and linked up well with AJ throughout.

A lovely result on a lovely sunny morning and a good performance as well. Can't ask for more than that....
