Under 17s - Match Report 20/03/2010
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Maidenhead Predators
Result: Won 2 - 1

Having beaten this opposition 6-2 earlier this season we were not expecting a similar scoreline. With us and two other teams all on 20 points we needed to win this one in order to remain in the top four.

The way we bagan this match was definately on the front foot as we played some neat football and Maidenhead for some time found us hard to deal with. George was lying on the ground and winning a challenge one moment then getting to his feet and running in to beat the 'keeper the next. I for one, thought he had run it too far but his shot sneaked in at the near post. Truthfully, our opponents were not in the game and we should have been out of sight by the break. Myles was in the wars a little but by and large he had not much to do.

After the break, we lost the rhythmn we had before and Maidenhead found some space and somehow equalised. Ross had an outstanding game at the back throughout and although he swung a boot at a loose ball he could not be blamed for their goal. It was simply that someone needed to take ownership and clear our lines. As the match wore on neither side could find a way through.

I took a decision to play three up front, at the risk of allowing our opponents more midfield space. We very nearly paid the price with 2 minutes left as a low shot just eluded Myles right post. Fitness levels can be crucial in games and one thing we have to do is never give up and keep going until the whistle. AJ did not stop for 90 minutes today and with virtually the last kick of the match won the 3 points with another excellent individual goal from at least 20 yards out. The 'keeper had no chance with that shot from our Man of the Match.

A close, end to end finish, but that is football. However, we need to be more clinical with Ascot then two Twyford fixtures coming up. Can the Romans march on.....?
