Under 17s - Match Report 10/10/2009
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: FC Bracknell
Result: Won 4 - 1

Looking at the table this was going to be a hard match to win. It proved difficult but in more ways than one. There may be some tired legs after this one.

Early on and for much of the first half, or defending was a little wayward. This was mainly down to lack of communication or not taking responsibility. The goal we conceded was soft but only because no one made a clear decision to challenge. If someone had "put a name on it" instead of watching the ball bouncing around the six yard box we may not have found ourselves a goal down. Nor would we have allowed our opponents to hit a post and the bar early on. We were riding our luck to be honest.

Luck does sometimes play a part and it would do again. After George had put us level with a cool finish from inside the box we then were gifted a penalty which was very hard to see. AJ made sure we led at the break beating the 'keeper easily. Lovely to see a Bracknell lad shake his hand after scoring when earlier after a challenge between the two had left the defender in pain on the ground due to recurrence of a back problem. Really, I was surprised that we were winning as Bracknell had the best of the half in a very physical match.

Fozzie had retired early on due to illness so we moved Steven back into midfield to accommodate Joe up front. Almost from the kick off we had a great five minute period where we won the match. Steven sent over a cross which sailed straight over the 'keeper into the net. Then from AJ's corner he rose above everyone at the far post to head his second. Strange at half time the Man of the Match Steven said he was finding life difficult in that position then he scores twice..... We tightened up the defence and really could have scored more but there was no need. The two quick goals seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side and once Kurt came on to work with Chris, Ross and David at the back we looked safe.

George's day was shortened due to a head injury, we wish him a speedy recovery. Legs began to tire in a really tough match against some big players but we were worthy winners in the end.
