Under 16s - Match Report 23/04/2009
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Yateley Wanderers
Result: Won 2 - 1

Finally we arrive at our last match of a brilliant season with only two defeats and unbeaten at home. The pitch was rock hard and looked as though someone had attempted a crop circle hoax and failed using a car. Last time we met, we won the Division. The possibility of winning the Challenge League would remain if we could record a final win here.

The game seemed to start in slow motion, the ball bobbling about on the solid ground and neither side seemed to retain possession for long. As the game wore on there were few attempts on goal in a fairly even first half. Out of nothing Yateley scored from long distance. The ball seemed to just appear in the packed midfield and a white shirt lofted it from maybe 25 yards out. Deliberate or not, it dropped in for what seemed like deja-vu. We had to come from behind again.

Man of the Match Daniel seemed to enjoy the hard surface and kept collecting the ball and laying it off, creating good moves. Oddly enough, he was not involved in the equaliser. David collected the ball and beat a couple of Yateley lads before lobbing the 'keeper from way out, similar to their opener. Grinding out results is probably going to be a regular occurrence now we have won something so this could be a foretaste of next season.

It would seem that we are capable of any style of football now. Our second and winning goal after the break was undeniably a long ball, ugly goal, but shows rewards come from persistence. A Daniel clearance from inside our half bounced twice at most before AJ nipped in between defender and 'keeper to head a poachers goal. We always say, don't give up and this shows why. Again, all the lads played their part and when Nathan and Taylor came on some really neat football was played down the right. Good signs all around for the Autumn then......

We now await the result of Saturday's meeting between Bracknell Cavaliers and Burghfield and we have a spy going to add support! We have a 2 point advantage and so the pressure is on Burghfield who have to win. Always better to have points in the bag!
