Our matches against the Cavs always turn out to be close run and competetive and we were not to be disappointed.
We began slowly, as though we had not "got out of bed" again.
A few stray passes and a good midfield battle,
with the away side having lots of possession and good final balls through.
Fortunately, the end product, some good fortune and good defending from Alex S,
Kurt and Man of the Match Ross, kept us in the game.
In truth, we were not playing as well as our last two matches.
Not enough use was made of the width of the pitch this time but when David went down the left flank we looked dangerous.
Myles in goal had another excellent match and will need to be just as "safe" next weekend....
Our first goal was out of persistence and pressure.
The lads are encouraged not to give up until the ball is dead.
AJ showed how it can be done,
running on to the 'keeper as he attempted to clear a back pass.
The clearance hit AJ and the ball rolled towards an empty net which only needed him to help it over the line.
The second was also a result of his non-stop running.
As he worked his way into the box and attempted to take on a third defender,
Cavs manager shouted "he's going nowhere".
At that moment,
said defender fouled AJ who subsequently got up and despatched a confident penalty.
At this time,
it was against the run of play but this was probably the only part of the game when we began to play the fluid football we are capable of.
AJ had the ball in the net a third time but this was ruled out for off-side.
The second half was more of the same as Cavs looked for a goal and we struggled to take hold of the ball.
AJ could have finished with a hat-trick but fired wide.
Other than that we never really threatened a third goal and our opponents had most of the play.
It is good in some respects that we can win when not playing well but our next opponents will prove more difficult to beat.
