Under 16s - Match Report 17/01/2009
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Whitegrove United
Result: Won 3 - 2

After a long enforced winter break it was good to get the lads back out on the pitch. Though by the time this report appears, they will probably feel worn out after a hard fought win on an uneven and heavy pitch.

We began well, pressurising Whitegrove into making errors at the back but after 5 minutes it looked like being a bad day. A looping, deflected cross which the wind caught went over Myles and into the corner of the net. An unfortunate goal but they all count. Then when the lads dug the ball out of the sticky centre of the pitch, we began to work it around and played some of the football they are capable of. AJ scored two quick goals to turn the game on it's head and in our favour. The pitch was proving tiring on the legs of both teams and the midfield was a constant battle ground, with the ball passing between tackles and mis-placed passes. Oli, Oisin, Daniel, Greg and Ells found it really difficult. Man of the Match Ross cleared his lines on numerous occasions and was unfortunate to give away the free kick which led to Whitegrove's second. They scored directly from a superbly struck shot, not like their fortunate first.

We continued to press however and as half time neared, Oli cleared with a through ball that Oisin managed to squeeze just inside a post for what turned out to be the winner.

Ben, David, Kurt and Alex B all worked hard on the flanks, Kurt eventually reverted to his usual position. Alex S and Ells played really well, snuffing out the threat from the opposing forwards, who after the break became less dangerous. Charlie, AJ and Taylor ran and ran up front but we could not find a fourth. All goals in the first half but the result was enough to keep us at the top.

A good victory, which leaves the table looking like it is between two teams after today's results......
