Under 16s - Match Report 13/09/2008
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Reeves White
Result: Won 3 - 0

Having played this team recently in a friendly and overwhelmed them, we were more than aware that this would be a totally different match. And so it was on a lovely playing surface and on a pleasant morning that we had our first ever opening day victory but by a closer scoreline than the friendly.

We began well, moving the ball around well and making good use of the enlarged pitch. But for some wayward shooting we should have been ahead early on. Eventually, having had Oli, Daniel and Ell play some lovely through balls for Charlie and Ben W to chase, one paid off. Making his debut, it was a cool left footed finish from Ben W and fully deserved too. We kept pressing and although our defence got caught short on a couple of occasion, we never really were threatened.

After the break we stepped up our game. Pressing forward more and working much better as a team, the possession began to pay off and from a loose ball outside the box, Oli composed himself and scored what seems to be a trademark finish from the Man of the Match. The ball flew in over the 'keepers head to give us daylight over Reeves. We never looked like conceding after that and Myles hardly had a shot to deal with. Alex had a great game and superbly created the third goal. The larger pitch helped allowed us to stretch Reeves much more and after some good work down the left, Alex did not give up, beat 2 defenders on the bye-line before playing a short pass for Fozzie to knock in at the near post from close range.

Nathan came on early in the second half and made his presence felt, hitting the bar from an excellent header. This showing was obviously positive as a watching possible addition to the squad will be signing on, welcome Alex number two.

Special mention and thanks to Ross' father for locating the elusive match ball. If our shooting improves we won't need to do that too often!
