Under 15s - Match Report 23/02/2008
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Ascot United Rangers
Result: Won 3 - 2

Having beaten this team 10-3 earlier in the season, maybe some expected an easy ride. We warned prior to kick off that it would not be a repeat.

Sure enough, after 10 minutes we were a goal down. Even though we only just managed to get a team together, by half time we had turned over that deficit and were playing some lovely football too.

Having had a couple of near misses last week, Nick continued getting into great positions from midfield and it was to pay off. From just inside the penalty area his shot flew into the top corner. Without allowing Ascot to settle, we then continued to attack and Charlie scored for the third consecutive match, taking his total to 10. Up to half time, we ran the game and should have scored again.

As it remained 2-1 at the break, we needed a goal to put some distance between us and Ascot. The lads were warned to be first to the ball and take ownership otherwise we would pay. The equaliser duly arrived from a breakaway after we had lost possession at a throw. So at 2-2 the game could have gone either way. We kept the pressure up but always with the worry that we could get caught on the break. From a corner, the Ascot defence panicked. Taylor's shot hit the bar and bounced to Nick who knocked the ball towards the goal from close in the box. Ascot's defender then hit the ball into the roof of the net. Think this one goes down to Nick for his persistence and his knack of getting to the right place at the right time.

Alex won Man of the match, filling in at right back due to player unavailability. He did a great job, keeping things tight and making some important challenges. A close game but a hard earned victory.
