Under 15s - Match Report 09/02/2008
Manager: Shane Wyatt
Opponents: Yateley
Result: Won 2 - 1

We warned the lads not to take this team lightly, and were proved right. It turned out to be a really battling close fought match.

We should have led at half time but Daniel hit the post from the spot after the fortunate award of a penalty. Yateley picked up the ball in the box after the ref whistled as Jono's corner arrived in the box. Some confusion as to why the ref had blown, apparently to allow the corner to be taken. Lots of strange decisions, but that's football. We should have scored through Charlie and Ell's tireless running but we were sloppy when trying to remain onside. Taylor and Chris too fell victim to Yateley's high line of defence and next week we need to make diagonal runs to beat this.

After half time we started slowly and went a goal down after 5 minutes. A lovely volley beat Myles low down....no one would have got close to that but the lad should not have been allowed to shoot in the first place. We never really missed Ross with Ben filling in well at the back so remained solid at the back. Oli had another great match and moved forward late on to cause some confusion in the Yateley defence. Jono's runs were a constant threat and could have scored a couple himself.

Eventually, after Jono hit the bar, we began to work out the off-side trap. Charlie had a couple of clear chances and eventually scored the 2 goals to earn Man of the Match and become leading goal scorer, though he should have had more. We began to impose ourselves with Fozzy and Alex pressing the opposition and Daniel's excellent vision kept beating the line and allowing Oli, Jono and Charlie to run on.

Still, we need more goals, but the three points are welcome after a run of 5 without a point. Maybe next week we can make life easier for ourselves....?
