I was hoping for a result from this one, bearing in mind the league positions of the
two sides. This result proved we now have strength in depth. With David ruled out
through injury, Charlie and Alex both played well at the back, as Ross and Kurt
"moved over" to accommodate. Our main concern was whether or not we would score
some goals.
The match was one-way traffic in the first half, pinning Reeves back in their own
half. We put constant pressure on them and "route one" was the only way we would
have conceded a goal. A few chances were missed, no one able to follow up Jono and
Ell's excellent wide play with a touch to score. I'm thinking "not again", will we
score?
Nick, Taylor, Oli and Chris all went close at some point. But the goal eventually
came from a low shot into the corner from Ell for his first of the season. After a
handball, Daniel stepped up with a confidently low placed penalty for our second. At
last things were coming together. We then changed from 3-5-2 to a more attacking
4-3-3 with Jono joining the front 2, in the hope that more would come. Sure enough,
after forcing many corners, we were rewarded with an own goal and after a scramble,
Fozzie added our fourth.
Captain Oisin had an excellent match and won many headers and tackles to get the Man
of the Match. It got to the stage that almost every move flowed through him.....more
of that each week please! All of the squad stuck to their jobs today and that is a
great credit to how well they learn. Play was not broken up when the subs came on
and the result was great to watch, some good passing football was played.
