This was always down as a close but "winnable" match. Ashridge just above us in the
league by two points so the incentive was there for Hurst.
After our last excellent showing against Maidenhead I know this squad is capable of
competing with any team. As the match began we could see that the lads were almost
running the game and throughout were to have the lions share of possession. From
probably their only attack in a Hurst dominated first half, Ashridge scored a really
soft goal. They didn't deserve it but we didn't challenge on the edge of the box and
they found a way through. We must not stop when we lose possession of the ball.
The second half continued in the same way and all we needed to do was patiently work
the chances. When we did we just did't finish them off. I knew a goal would come and
after Fozzie hit the post Jono was first to react and got our equaliser. Only problem
was we lost concentration at the most vulnerable time, after scoring. We let a
another soft goal in and even though we adjusted to having 3 forwards on for the
last 15 minutes we could not find another way through. We saw great performances all
over the pitch, David was unfortunate to miss a penalty, Kurt was consistent to win
the Man of the Match and Greg was strong in midfield.
Close fought, we just need to take our chances like we did when we scored 10.....
