Our first match at a new venue, new league and some new players. After two good
pre-season friendlies, we have high expectations for this season. This match would
be a good indication of how our side has developed, as Cavaliers are expected to
be near the top of Division 2 next April.
With our new signings, Myles in goal, David and Kurt in defence, our goals against
this season should be considerably lower. Kurt was unavailable but Myles was
unbelievable, saving at point blank range on a couple of occasions, and David was
solid, gaining Man of the Match, but only by a short head. Oli scored from Greg's
shot hitting the post, to put us 1-0 up at half time. Our two wingers, Sam and
Jono were running Cavs defence ragged at times and the amount of possesion we had
was amazing. Ross started in defence and nearly scored after moving up to midfield
at the interval but had a good game overall.
Cavs manager told his players at half time, that he was expecting HRFC to take the
3 points. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Cavs began to put the pressure on and
we conceded 3 but this was never a true reflection of the match. All over the
pitch Hurst gave their all and deserved a draw at least. However, seeing this game
should lift all of us and realise that we will now be hard to beat this season.
