The lads were on burger curfew for this tournament. Problem was, if we didn't
finish in the top two out of 5 teams, we were on the road home as there was no
plate competition. So there was no break to eat any of those anti-football foods!
In all 4 matches we had so much possession but could not find the goals to get wins.
First up was Woodley Saints, a good performance with only a lack of concentration
from defending a corner costing us dearly. A 1-0 defeat was scant reward for a
strong performance.
A 0-0 draw with our hosts, Woodley Town Kestrels, followed.
This was a better performance and with so much pressure should have won. Oisin was
looking most likely to add to his 3 from last Sunday.
California were looking like a tough proposition but we hammered their defence for
long periods before they put us under pressure. Elliot kept us in the game with 3
excellent saves but we held out for another goal-less draw.
Finally, we came up
against Woodley Hammers. Again we had loads of possession and I thought "here we
go again". But Oisin somehow squeezed a low shot into the corner for our only goal
of the tournament. We should have won by more but as with all the games we showed
we can play football and that has to be promising for the new season.
Well done to Jono on his first appearances for the club. Hope the back recovers
and doesn't give you too much pain. Onward to next Sunday's tournament.........
