This match was closer than the score suggests and I believe fitness levels was the difference in the end. We had two more debutantes, Alex up front and Oisin in midfield.
We began the game superbly with the ball being stroked around as though we'd done it for years. "This makes a change" was one parental touchline comment in my ear and it was wonderful to see. Then, early on Sam took a ball down the right, cut into the area and beat the 'keeper on his near post. What a start and fully deserved.
Then we continued playing a good passing match. Daniel sprayed the ball around behind the two forwards, Alex and Sam, as though he'd been in there all his life. Max on the right and Oisin on the left linked up well with him and for some periods Prospect could not cope. The defence had a different look about it with a couple of changes from the first games. Sam, George and Ben were reliable as usual but Harrison, moving back from midfield and Nathan at left back had the games of their lives.
After a few close calls, Prospect got their equaliser. Our heads never went down though and was a while before we conceded in the second half. Charlie, Stuart and Phillip came on with fresh legs as we tired and contributed really well.
Oisin received the training/match trophy and the MoM medal went to Nathan, as not a lot went past him.
From what we saw in this match the training that the lads have been receiving from Andy of Reading FC is getting through. If we continue in this vein the results will come.
